North Dakotans in the NFL: Week 2

Each week we will keep track of how our North Dakotans and former North Dakota college football players fare in the NFL. Let’s take a look at Week 2:

Carson Wentz, QB, Washington Commanders: The Bismarck Century graduate overcame a shaky start and dug the Commanders out of a 22-0 hole Sunday against the Detroit Lions. They lost 36-27, but Wentz threw for 337 yards and 3 TDs, but he also had a crucial interception in the third quarter and fumbled out of the end zone for a safety in the first quarter.

He also made history by becoming the first QB tracked since 1950 to throw for 300+ yards and 3+ TDs in his first two starts with a new team. Interesting little record there. With 7 TDs on the season, he’s tied for the league lead.

Trey Lance, QB, San Francisco 49ers: I wrote an entire post about Lance and his season-ending injury. Feel free to read it here.

Cordell Volson, OT, Cincinnati Bengals: The right guard from Balfour, N.D., played 100% of Cincinnati’s snaps, but the Bengals dropped to 0-2 with a 20-17 loss to Dallas on a last-second field goal.

Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers: It was another slow week for the rookie from NDSU. He had three catches for just nine yards in the 27-10 win over Chicago.

Ben Ellefson, TE, Minnesota Vikings: After 1 catch in the opener last week, Ellefson — from just across the board in Hawley, Minn. — will be on the field against the Eagles Monday night.

Chris Board, LB, Detroit Lions: The fifth-year special teams expert out of NDSU had 4 solo tackles, including back-to-back tackles of Washington RB J.D. McKissic in the fourth quarter.

Easton Stick, QB, Los Angeles Chargers: The record-setting QB from NDSU is third on L.A.’s depth chart behind Justin Herbert and Chase Daniel and was listed as inactive during a 27-24 loss to the Chiefs.

Jabril Cox, LB, Dallas Cowboys: Cox was surprisingly listed as inactive for the second straight week. He’s coming off a ACL tear last season.

Billy Turner, OT, Denver Broncos: Turner was a full practice participant on Thursday but is nursing a knee injury and was among the Broncos’ inactives in their 16-9 win over the Houston Texans.

Joe Haeg: OT, Cleveland Browns: The NDSU product played just one snap in a 31-30 loss to the Jets.

Matt Waletzko, OT, Dallas Cowboys: The former UND star did not play in Cowboys’ win over Bengals.

Dillon Radunz, T, and Derek Tuszka, LB, Tennessee Titans: Both are NDSU graduates. Radunz was a limited practice participant with a neck injury. He is active when the Titans visit the Bills tonight. Tuszka, also on the 53-man roster, is listed as inactive.
