North Dakota High School Football Games of the Week: September 23

Class 11AA

No. 5 Minot (3-1) at No. 1 Fargo Davies (3-1): Every team ranked in the Class AA poll has a record of 3-1, which means a Minot win at Davies on Friday could potentially vault them to top of the rankings. Meanwhile, two other 11AA ranked-team games have very winnable games as No. 2 West Fargo Sheyenne visits 11A Grand Forks Red River (3-1) and No. 4 Fargo Shanley hosts winless Bismarck Century. No. 3 Mandan is off this week. Watch the Davies-Minot game on YouTube.

Class 11A

No. 2 Fargo North (4-0) at Fargo South (3-1): One of the best rivalries in the state resumes when the Spartans drives across town to visit the Bruins in a pivotal game in the East Region standings and state playoff seeding. South’s only loss was a 49-0 drubbing by Fargo Shanley. WDAY has a nice story today on North’s Jeremiah Sem, known more as a basketball standout who is also excelling as a receiver. Also, check out this interview from @HotMicWDAY with Dom Izzo. Watch the game on the South YouTube Stream.

Class 11B

No. 5 Oakes (5-0) at No. 1 Kindred (5-0): The top two teams in Region 1 will battle it out in Kindred. Check out this cool story on Joe Schafer, an Oakes senior already in the Army National Guard, by the Jamestown Sun’s Katie Ringer. Xavier Vossler leads the Tornadoes. Kindred, the defending state champs, are anchored by a stout offensive front that includes Riley Sunram, a junior with multiple Division I offers. Follow him on Twitter here. Watch the game on Kindred’s YouTube stream.

No. 2 Dickinson Trinity (5-0) at Bowman County (3-2): The streaking Titans, who are averaging nearly 50 points per game, have shot up the state poll to No. 2 and will have a chance to make a statement against a tough Bowman County team that has given them fits in recent years and is coming off a 21-14 loss at Shiloh Christian. If the Titans win this one, they’ll have the Region 4 regular-season title all but locked up. Watch the game live with commentary here.

9-man

No. 1 Lamoure-LM (5-0) at No. 4 May-Port-CG (5-0): This non-region 9-man matchup could be the best game in the state after Minot-Davies, and figures to be huge in the playoff rankings as the No. 1-ranked Loboes, sitting atop Region 1, head to Mayville to play the No. 4 Patriots, who are solidly atop Region 2.

Hankinson (4-1) at Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (4-1): While LaMoure-LM battles May-Port-CG, the Pirates and Warbirds will be in Wyndmere with each looking to stay unbeaten in Region 1. Hankinson then visits LaMoure-LM next Friday with Wyndmere-Lidgerwood going there in two weeks. It’s the start of a big three-week stretch in Region 1.

Grant County-Flasher (3-2) at Hettinger County (3-2): This one might not feature two ranked or unbeaten teams, but the winner of the Highway 21 rivalry game will have the inside track on the Region 6 regular-season title when they meet Friday night in New England.
